Dicaprylyl Ether is a biodegradable, high-performance emollient derived entirely from renewable resources—specifically coconut and palm kernel oil. Marketed under the BASF trade name Cetiol OE, it is a non-irritating and non-sensitizing emollient with rheology-modifying and film-forming properties. It is lightweight, non-greasy, and offers excellent spreadability, making it  a suitable alternative to silicones such as cyclomethicone. Dicaprylyl Ether effectively conditions the skin and hair without leaving a greasy residue. Additionally, it functions as a solvent, aiding in the dissolution of hard-to-solubilize ingredients, and serves as an anti-foaming agent. It also exhibits highly effective makeup removal properties. Non-comedogenic and compatible with most ingredients, it is a low-polarity oil with excellent oxidation, pH, and thermal stability.
