Hydroxyethyl Urea (HEU) is a non-ionic humectant and emollient commonly used as a substitute for glycerin. It is a water-soluble white crystalline powder with a discernible odor that becomes undetectable when dissolved in water. HEU is a versatile ingredient with thermal and pH stability. Its non-ionic nature provides broad compatibility with most ingredients.
 
 HEU hydrates, softens, and conditions the skin and hair, while also functioning as a mild exfoliant.   In formulations containing skin-sensitizing or irritating ingredients, HEU has been shown to effectively minimize irritation. It imparts a non-tacky feel to formulations, especially those based on surfactants, making it an indispensable addition to personal care products. Furthermore, HEU optimizes the performance of active ingredients and helps improve the texture and viscosity of formulations.  It is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, and fragrance-free when dissolved in water. Additionally,  HEU is biodegradable.
