Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, commonly sold under the trade name Tinogard TT® , is a highly effective synthetic antioxidant derived from hydrocarbons. It is an odorless crystalline powder that is soluble in non-polar or moderately polar organic solvents (see our blog on polarity).
Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate protects cosmetic formulations from oxidative and thermal degradation, prolonging shelf life and helping to prevent discoloration. it provides increased oxidation stability of oil phases and fragrances. Additionally, it has preservative properties and is compatible with a wide range of ingredients. Due to its high molecular weight of 1,178 g/mol, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate does not penetrate the skin and is considered it safe for use in cosmetics by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) panel
