Hydrolyzed Sclerotium Gum is a derivative of Sclerotium Gum produced through hydrolysis. This process reduces the molecular weight of Sclerotium Gum, making it readily soluble in water. Both hydrolyzed and unhydrolyzed Sclerotium Gum share the same CAS number; however, the key differences lie in their molecular weight and functional properties. Hydrolyzed Sclerotium Gum has a molecular weight ranging from 1,000 kDa to 4,999 kDa, compared to 5,000 kDa and higher for the unhydrolyzed form. Additionally, hydrolyzed Sclerotium Gum offers enhanced performance over its unhydrolyzed counterpart, including film-forming, skin-conditioning, and humectant properties.
It is non-ionic (neutral in charge) and stable across a range of pH levels and temperatures. Although HSG is compatible with most ingredients, it is incompatible with both anionic and cationic surfactants. As an eco-friendly alternative to hydrocarbon-based natural polymers, it is derived from renewable resources and is biodegradable.
