Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate (SLSar) is a sulfate-free, mild, and naturally derived anionic surfactant made from coconut or palm kernel fatty acids and the amino acid sarcosine. It functions as a cleansing agent as well as a skin and hair conditioner. This low-salt surfactant has excellent cleansing properties and produces a stable, rich lather. It can form stable lather even in high-salt and hard water environments and withstands heat up to 100˚C. Additionally, it is compatible with all surfactant types and enhances lather when used with Cocamidopropyl Betaine or Sodium Olefin Sulfonate.
SLSar offers a skin-friendly pH, mild degreasing properties, and helps restore softness and hydration to the skin. It is non-irritating, non-sensitizing, hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic. SLSar can be used as a co-surfactant to reduce irritation and improve foam. As a hair conditioning agent, it also possesses anti-static properties. SLSar is compatible with cationic polymers such as polyquaterniums, as well as silicones, glycols, and other solvents. Furthermore, it is environmentally friendly—sourced from renewable resources and readily biodegradable. SLSar is included in the Handbook of Green Chemicals and is also listed among Whole Foods' premium body care ingredients.
