Glyceryl caprylate is a multifunctional, 100% plant-based ester derived from caprylic acid (from coconut oil) and glycerin. It is a faint yellow, water-insoluble liquid. Glyceryl caprylate acts as an emollient, an absorption enhancer, and as an emulsifier for both oil-in-water (OW) and water-in-oil (WO) formulations. It serves as a preservative substitute with excellent anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties. Glyceryl caprylate can expedite the emulsification process and reduce the need for preservatives in formulations. It is commonly used in creams, anti-acne wipes, deodorants, shampoos, body washes, and lotions.
